The Judicial Inquiry Commission has considered your request for an opinion concerning
whether under the Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethics a judge is disqualified from sitting
in a certain proceeding. The proceeding is a matter involving the custody of a child.
One of the parties to the proceeding has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the State
of Alabama and certain local Departments of Human Resources concerning their
participation in the custody of the child in question.
