This is in response to your request for an advisory opinion from the Judicial Inquiry
Commission. Your question is whether your are disqualified under the following
circumstances:  In 1985, before you became a judge, you, as an attorney, were appointed
by the probate court to represent the father in certain legal proceedings
which resulted in the civil commitment of the mother on the ground of
mental incompetency.
